Here’s a grisly tale about a Brazilian couple who performed cut-rate liposuction without being licensed to practice medicine in MA. Prosecutors allege that the couple obtained 30-day work visas “for the sole purpose of coming up here [Framingham] to perform plastic surgery in the basement of a local condominium,” according to The Associated Press. Luiz Carlos Ribeiro, 49, and his wife, Ana Maria Miranda Ribeiro, 49, were arraigned in Framingham District Court on charges of unauthorized practice of medicine and drug charges, following the death of 24-year old Fabiola de Paula after a liposuction performed on a massage table. The husband’s bail was set at $250,000, his wife’s at $50,000, and both were ordered to surrender their passports. A pretrial conference is scheduled on Aug. 25 in Framingham District Court.
