WHAT A HEEL!: Dead Man Travels 1,000 Miles Before Daughter Tells Anyone


When a woman and her father, Daniel Stepanovich, boarded Amtrak’s California Zephyr, which travels from Emeryville, CA, to Chicago, both of them were alive and kicking. Stepanovich, 80, died in the sleeper car as the train approached the Glenwood Springs, CO, station but the daughter kept the news to herself because she did not want to pay the cost of shipping the body back to CA. The daughter told police that her father was afflicted with lung and brain cancer; the Cook County medical examiner's office determined his death was from natural causes.
