WHAT A HEEL!: Ombudsman Needs Ethics Class
North Charleston, SC ombudsman James Bell was allegedly caught on a police video tape scratching the back of Councilman Bob King's Nissan Murano with his key because King had parked in Bell’s spot. And this may not have been the first time, either: The tape also shows scratches on the passenger side of the car that King says were put there about five weeks ago when he parked in Bell's spot while Bell was off duty. Bell was charged with a misdemeanor count of malicious injury to personal property. King pegs the damage at about $1,000.
Meanwhile, Bell's attorney, Bill Runyon, said his client recently had knee surgery and was steadying himself, which is how the scratches occurred.
Yeah, that’s the ticket. Knee surgery. Yeah, I lost my balance and the key in my hand scratched the car when I instinctively thrust my arm out to catch my fall. Yeah, that’s it. That’s what happened.
