NOT THE SHARPEST KNIVES IN THE DRAWER: Neighbors Aid And Abet Car Thief
On a couple of occasions this feature has focused on brainless brothers and foolish friends, but this is the first time The Stiletto has come across an entire neightborhood being struck dumb at the same time.
A 14-year old in Mesa, AZ, was having trouble with the manual transmission on the car he was trying to steal. He asked passersby for help – and 15 stupid Samaritans responded. Somehow, the car got stuck in reverse, and still more neighborhood ninnies joined in to help push the car. Ultimately, one woman got out of her own vehicle to get into the stolen car to give the kid step-by-step instructions on how to drive the car. Police got involved when city workers and other residents saw him driving erratically and called 911. The teenager was taken into custody, along with his unwitting drivers’ ed instructor; she was later released. The car apparently belongs to a friend, with whom the boy had been staying. No charges have been filed, and the boy was given citations and released into the custody of his grandmother. Noting that no one realized the would-be car thief was underage, Phoenix police are calling the incident "a comedy of errors."
