THE DAILY BLADE: Stone Throwers Who Live In Glass Houses
Dems are playing a dangerous game trying to hang the Mark Foley sex scandal (third item) around House Speaker Dennis Hastert’s neck, considering that they have plenty of scandals of their own to deal with. Take, for instance, the remarkably similar luck that Harry Reid had investing in the real estate market as Hillary Clinton had in the cattle futures market.
And then there’s the granddaddy of all Dem scandals: Chappaquiddick. In his defense of Hastert, Rep. Chris Shays (R-CT) told the Hartford Courant, "Dennis Hastert didn't kill anybody." Payback for Kennedy making a campaign appearance on behalf of Shays' Democratic opponent, Westport Selectwoman Diane Farrell, after she started beating the drum for Hastert’s resignation.
Kennedy spokeswoman Melissa Wagoner declined to said, "dignify such a desperate attack with a response." The Stiletto thinks "desperate" is how Mary Jo Kopechne must have felt watching Ted Kennedy swim away while she was trapped in the car he had just driven off the bridge, knowing that she would very soon meet her demise.
Why This Friday The 13th Is Scarier Than Usual
The Washington Times reports that, "This is not a good day for paraskevidekatriaphobics -- those who fear Friday the 13th. It's double-13 Friday. All the numbers in the numerical notation -- 10/13/2006 -- add up to 13 as well, giving great pause to the superstitious. The phenomenon hasn't happened in 476 years, said Heinrich Hemme, a physicist at Germany's University of Aachen who crunched the numbers to find that the double-whammy last occurred Jan. 13, 1520."
This particular Friday the 13th was most unlucky for The Stiletto. Two of her worst fears came true, one of which she discusses in today’s edition of the blog.

Air America’s Bankrupt Opinions And Bankrupt Bottom Line
The Wall Street Journal reports that, "Air America Radio, a liberal talk and news radio network … and its parent, Piquant LLC, filed for Chapter 11 after Air America's investors decided to pull the plug on the money-losing broadcaster. … According to court papers, the radio network has lost money since its founding in 2004. Air America has lost $13.1 million so far this year. Last year, Air America's operating losses ballooned to $19.2 million from $8.6 million in 2004."
And this, despite an $875,000 infusion of embezzled cash (third item) "loaned" from a Bronx-based charity for inner city kids and elderly folk.
