Entertainment news site TMZ.com outs Hollywood celebrities who drive hybrid cars in public, but then "hop on a private jet and burn enough fuel to propel NASCAR through 2050." Here’s their list of some of the most egregious ersatz environmentalists:
† Julia Roberts: Drives a Prius (best case scenario: 60 miles per gallon). Flew 1,749 miles between Chicago and LA in a private jet. Would have to drive her Prius 30,000 miles (once around the earth and then some, notes TMZ) to cancel out the 2,100 gallons of jet fuel consumed on that trip.
† Jennifer Lopez: Also drives a Prius. Flew 2,475 miles between LA and New York in a private jet, guzzling 2,750 gallons of jet fuel. Would have to drive her hybrid 45,000 miles, or nearly twice around the earth.
† George Clooney: Drives a Tango, an electric car that gets 135 miles per charge. Flew 5,500 between LA and Tokyo in a private jet. Per TMZ, he’d have to "drive over 57 oceans -- Pacific Oceans" to even out the 7,000 gallons of jet fuel needed for his jaunt.
† Brad Pitt: Prefers Prius, and is said to own several hybrid cars. He didn’t drive any of them to Namibia – he made the 9,400 mile trip to the African country from LA. TMZ says the 11,000 gallons of jet fuel burned on that trip is enough "to take a Prius to the moon."
