WHAT HEELS!: Judges Gone Wild

On the way back from a Rams game in S. Louis, Circuit Judge Patrick Young, 58, was charged with drunken driving after his SUV reportedly made a left turn into the path of a pick-up truck, causing an accident that sent the driver of the other vehicle to the hospital for a brief stint. A police officer on the scene, Shane Brown, detected "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" on Young's breath and noted he was "swaying forward and backwards." Another officer at the scene says he saw Young's passenger, Chief Judge Jan Fiss, 64, dump the contents of an open can of Bud Light out on the road and hide the incriminating evidence. Young refused a field sobriety test and a Breathalyzer; his lawyer Clyde Kuehn contends the tests have proven unreliable. Fiss has temporarily stepped down, pending resolution of the charges against his subordinate. St. Clair County (IL) circuit judges voted to appoint former prosecutor John Baricevic interim chief judge. Baricevic is expected to appoint a special prosecutor. Young faces up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine on the misdemeanor DUI charge.
