NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: She Was A Witch, All Right
Former Long Island, NY, public school teacher Lauren Berrios, 37, claimed she had been fired because of false accusations that she was a witch. New York Law Journal reports that she sued the Hampton Bays School District for millions in damages "for religious discrimination based on her actual faith, Judaism, and perceived faith, Wicca [emphasis, The Stiletto’s]; hostile work environment; and defamation." After a five-day trial, the seven-member federal jury in Central Islip, NY deliberated for all of an hour before rejecting Berrios' argument that then-school principal Andrew Albano, a born-again Christian, had it in for her "because of her Jewish or rumored pagan beliefs." The school district countered that Berrios had "serious pre-existing mental health issues," and that she was fired because she could not get along with her co-workers.
