WHAT A HEEL!: More Documents Stolen From National Archives
Denning McTague, 40, who worked as an unpaid intern at a National Archives and Records Administration facility in Philadelphia last summer, allegedly stole as many as 165 Civil War documents - including the War Department's announcement of President Lincoln's death - and sold most of them on the online auction site eBay. McTague, who holds master's degrees in history and information systems and owns a Web site that sells rare books, was organizing documents for the upcoming 150th anniversary of the Civil War. McTague has helped recover most of the stolen documents and plans to plead guilty. It is not known whether McTague smuggled the documents out of the National Archives in his pants or socks.
