NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: A Career Criminal

After pleaded guilty to two counts of bank robbery and one count of transporting a stolen vehicle, Etni Ortiz was sentenced to 8½ years in federal prison, followed by three years of probation. According to court records, the crime spree that landed Ortiz in jail began last December, when he robbed a Bank of America branch in Tampa, FL – apparently carrying his resume and a photo of himself, which he dropped at the scene along with a pile of dye-stained money. Nine days later, when he robbed another bank in Sarasota police were able to match the photo with surveillance images of Ortiz. The next day, the FL Highway Patrol found Ortiz driving an SUV that had been jacked in MA a couple of months earlier. Inside the vehicle, police found a note: "This is a robbery. Do not do anything stupid or I'll shoot you first. Give me all $100, $50, $20. No smoke bombs or I will shoot you" – along with a suitcase packed with $1,969.
