WHAT A HEEL!: Author Never Crossed Paths With Oprah
Bill Schneider, administrative director of tourism for Provincetown, RI, wanted to promote his self-published novel "Crossed Paths," so he posted on his Web site a five-page transcript of the interview Oprah Winfrey did with him when she introduced him to her audience as "the latest author to join my Book Club" and "a friend of mine." Alas, the interview, like the book, is a work of fiction:
Schneider has not appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in connection with "Crossed Path" and the book is not and never has been on Oprah's Book Club list, a spokeswoman for Harpo Inc. said.
"He is misrepresenting himself and he has no relationship with Oprah's Book Club," the spokeswoman said. …
Questions were first raised about Schneider’s claims of association with Oprah’s Book Club by Boston’s Weekly Dig.
