WHAT A HEEL!: “Shooting” Did Not Compute, Says Judge

On the night of December 16, 2005, John J. Donovan Sr., 64, a founder of computer services consulting firm Cambridge Technology Partners, called the police claiming he had been shot by two strangers in the parking lot of his office in an attack arranged by his son, who had laundered $180 million and had threatened to kill him. But prosecutors alleged that Donovan had made the whole thing up because he was locked in an acrimonious legal battle with his son over trusts that he claims are worth tens of millions of dollars. In a bench trial, Judge Kenneth Fishman found Donovan guilty of filing a false police report and sentenced him to two years probation, a $625 fine and a 200 hours of community service. Fishman also ordered Donovan to stay away from his oldest son and three daughters, their spouses and their children as a condition of probation. Donovan's younger son, John Jr., opted out of the judge's order.
