NOT THE SHARPEST KNIVES IN THE DRAWER: Child Brides

A typo in an AR law that took effect July 1 technically allows newborns to marry with parental consent. The law intended to establish 18 as the minimum age to marry, but with a loophole that allowed pregnant minor girls to marry with parental consent. The AR Code Revision Commission, which is authorized to correct typos and technical errors, removed a "not" in the text of the bill that permitted a minor of any age who is not pregnant to marry if a parent says it’s OK, but Circuit Judge Tom J. Keith ruled the correction changed the meaning of the law and that legislators must rewrite the law. State Sen. Sue Madison (D-Fayetteville), who chairs the commission tells The Associated Press that the group had "done its job and had acted responsibly to fix an error, but the judge has thrown the issue open again. I think it's deplorable and it's embarrassing."

At least (hopefully!) the law's wording doesn't allow marriages between humans and animals...we haven't gone that far...yet...
