WHAT HEELS!: Casino Operators Speak With Forked Tongues

Gary Hoffman was playing the nickel slots at the Sandia Resort and Casino in August when the machine indicated that he won a $1,597,244.10 jackpot. He was then led to an executive conference room, and informed that the casino - which is on tribal land - refused to pay, claiming the machine had malfunctioned. A casino employee "became quite intimidating with me, pointed his finger in my face and said, 'You didn't win. We're not paying you any money. Do you understand what I'm telling you? You're not getting any money,'" Hoffman tells ABC News. The retired Albuquerque, NM, city employee filed a lawsuit, but the case may never make it to court because Native American tribes are sovereign nations and cannot be sued in state courts, except in very limited circumstances, reports ABC.
