NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Dentist Might Not Be Trusty, After All

George Trusty, 57, a dentist at Syracuse (NY) Community Health Center, is being sued by patient Brandy Fanning, 31, who alleges that he was dancing (that is, "performing rhythmical steps and movements”) to the song “Car Wash,” which was paying on the radio, while drilling on her left molar when the drill bit snapped off and got stuck near her eye. The suit claims that Trusty tried to pull the bit out with a metal hook but succeeded only in pushing it through the sinus and bone near her eye socket, necessitating emergency surgery and a three-day hospital stay. Fanning says she filed the suit for $600,000 to cover medical expenses after Trusty reneged on a promise to pay them, as well as for pain and suffering that includes facial swelling, nerve damage and chronic infections.
