IN MY SHOES: What It’s Like To Be A Wounded Warrior
Sunday is Veterans Day. The Wounded Warriors Project offers these tips to honor the sacrifices that our men and women have made to turn back the tide of Islamofascist terrorism:
† Fly your American flag as a classic statement of support for America's brave heroes!
† Wear patriotic clothing this weekend. Even something as simple as an American flag lapel pin is important.
† Tie a purple ribbon to the antenna of your car as an expression of support for our war-wounded heroes.
† If there's a parade in your community - or some other Veterans Day event this weekend - be sure to support it with your attendance.
† Send an email to your local newspapers, as well as TV and radio stations. Tell them you support the men and women who defended our country, especially those wounded in combat.
† Ask local media to cover Veterans Day events thoroughly. Request that they honor America's heroes with positive editorials supporting adequate health care and benefits for veterans.
The WWP Web site lists several NFL and college football games at which the 30,000 men and women who suffered severe injury in Iraq, Afghanistan and other recent military conflicts will be honored – plus a whole bunch of other Veterans Day events.
You can also watch the inspiring "After Action Report," a WWP video series narrated by Matthew Modine that "celebrates the possibilities and personal victories of our wounded military heroes … who face tremendous challenges and try to accomplish the impossible." The courage that enabled these men and women to put their lives on the line in defense of our freedom - and the freedom of people living in countries they would have otherwise never travelled to - serves them still as they overcome devastating injury. In this documentary series, they tell their stories in their own words.
