WHAT A HEEL!: Lawyer Eats (Es)Crow
Former Westchester County, NY, real estate lawyer Anthony Bellettieri was sentenced to 10 years in prison, for defrauding banks and clients of more than $24 million of funds held in escrow. New York Law Journal reports that Belletieri used the money to make real estate investments, pay employee salaries, refurbish his home and pay for a family wedding. Southern District of New York Judge Charles L. Brieant said the severity of the sentence “was necessary to deter other potentially wayward lawyers.”
Uh-huh. That ought to do it. Don’t look for any more thieving lawyers in the “What A Heel!” category. There won’t be any left for The Stiletto to spotlight.
