NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Toking On Toad
In a new variation of “toad licking,” it seems druggies are inducing a species of Sonoran Desert toad to secrete venom containing a hallucinogenic called bufotenine, harvesting the venom and then heating it “to break down its toxins and preserve the hallucinogen, which is dried,” reports The Associated Press. Smoking the dried venom produces a high. AP cites the case of one David S. Theiss, 21, who was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possessing drug paraphernalia - the toad. While owning the toad is not illegal, using it to get high off its venom is.
Editorial Note: The only “Toad” The Stiletto ever got high off was Ginger Baker’s 13-minute drum solo (video link).
