NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Maureen Dowd’s Extended Childhood
Maureen Dowd’s December 9th column (which carried the highly original headline, “Mitt’s No JFK”) opens with this reminiscence: “When I was a kid, we used to drive on the Beltway past the big Mormon temple outside Washington. The spires rose up like a white Oz, and some wag had spray-painted the message on a bridge beneath: ‘Surrender Dorothy!’” InstaPundit points out that Maureen Dowd was born in 1952 and the temple was finished in 1974, making her 21 years old when the clever graffito was added to the bridge in 1973.
So the 55-year old Dowd got caught trying to shave 15 years from her age. Someone should clue her in that there’s a thin line between “young-looking” and “well-preserved” and she’s already on the wrong side of it. But if Dowd keeps up with the recommended schedule of Botox and collagen injections, in 10 years the adverb “remarkably” could precede “well-preserved.” Something for her to look forward to.

Glenn Reynolds made the assumption she was six at the time. If Dowd thinks she was a kid while still in college, who am I to disagree.

Since her columns are usually sophomoric, one could argue she hasn't grown up yet.
