WHAT A HEEL!: Doc Allegedly Steals Elderly Mother Blind
Internist Robin Motz, 68, is accused of stealing his 94-year-old mother's life savings of $832,453 after taking control of her finances through a power of attorney, leaving her to subsist on her small librarian’s pension and Social Security, Morgenthau said. Calling this a “mini-Astor case” – referring to similar charges against Brooke Astor’s son, Anthony Marshall - Morgenthau said Motz used the money to pay off $400K in credit card bills, and on flat-screen TVs; racket club dues; trips to the Bahamas, Mexico and Hong Kong; and $200K in renovations on his vacation home in Hillsdale, NY, reports The Associated Press. Motz pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on second-degree grand larceny and second-degree money laundering, and was released on $200,000 bail, which he posted in cash. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted on either count. Minnie Motz learned of her near-penury when she faced eviction from her her co-op in NYC's Upper West Side because she was unable to pay a construction fee assessed on the residents.
