WHAT A HEEL!: Ain’t That A Kick In The Pants!

State Representative Douglas Bruce has the dubious distinction of being the first member of the CO General Assembly to be censured for kicking the leg of a photographer who was taking his picture during a ceremonial prayer on January 14th – the first day on the job for the Colorado Springs Republican, who was appointed by his party to fill a vacancy. Fellow Republicans contributed to the near unanimous (62-to-1) vote in favor of censure, piqued over Bruce trying to evade responsibility for what his Web site still refers to as “The Nudge.” Speaking in his defense just before the censure vote, Bruce likened himself to Jimmy Stewart’s character in the movie, “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” who punches out a photographer. Fmr. State Representative Jerry Kopel (D) no doubt spoke for many when he told The New York Times, “Bruce really did start off on the wrong foot.”
