WHAT A HEEL!: Author’s Claim Of Being Holocaust Survivor Pure Fiction
MA author Misha Defonseca’s best-selling memoir details a harrowing journey throughout Europe at the age of 6 to find her parents, who had been taken away by the Nazis, during which she is sheltered by a wolf pack and kills a German soldier. Over the 11 years since the publication of “Misha: A Memoire of the Holocaust Years,” questions have been raised about the story’s authenticity by, among others, The Boston Globe. Now, Defonseca admits the story is a hoax, she’s not Jewish and she was safe in Brussels during WW II, reports The Globe. Her parents, “Robert and Josephine De Wael, were members of the Belgian resistance and were arrested and executed by the Nazis” – and that real-life story deserved telling.
