IN MY SHOES: What It’s Like To Own A DeLorean
Lauren J. Reilly, 31, who works for the Deutsch advertising agency, bought a 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 on eBay for $13,000 in 2004 as a birthday present to herself. The self-described “design enthusiast” tells The New York Times what life’s been like since:
“Having a DeLorean is like 5 percent being a rock star.”
“One time I was down in Philly, and behind me I hear this megaphone from the cops,” she said. “They’re like, ‘Pull over!’ ” …
Before Ms. Reilly could comprehend her violation, an officer delivered one of the film’s famous quotes over the police car’s loudspeaker: “One point twenty-one gigawatts!” (She also gets a lot of “88 miles per hour!”) The officers watched her car while she and a friend got cheesesteaks.
“Phenomenal,” she said, beaming at the recollection. …
“Definitely cool stuff happens because of it.”
Addendum: You can hear what the car's engine sounds like in this video.
[Hat Tip: The Heel, an Ivy-educated attorney with a prestigious New York firm and sometime contributor to this blog. It happens that he and Reilly are friends, and she has taken him out for a spin in the car. As The Stiletto is also a car buff, she is hoping that The Heel can wangle an invitation for her to get a ride in it, too!]

I read the article about her car on NYTimes.com this week and I saw that she rents out the car for parties. I was interested in renting the car and would like to get in contact with Lauren. If this is at all possible my contact information is knm216@gmail.com. Thank you!
