NOT THE SHARPEST KNIVES IN THE DRAWER: Since When Is Malware “Intellectual Property”?
Software security firm Symantec noticed a Russian malware author trying to “copyright” his virus by including a “end-user license agreement,” reports The Associated Press. Among the “terms” to which hackers had to agree: not to resell the virus, submit it to antivirus companies and pay a fee for product updates. Violators were threatened with being reported to antivirus companies by the malware author. Symantec says the licensing agreement is unenforceable – indeed, it is already being traded online and the author has not yet turned anyone in for stealing his intellectual property.
