WHAT A HEEL!: Pump And Dump
Police seized a pickup truck and trailer rigged with a trap door, a hose and a vacuum powered by the truck’s engine that was used on at least three occasions to siphon a total of $4,500 worth of diesel fuel from underground storage tanks at a Tic Toc Food Mart in Hermitage, PA. After local TV stations to broadcast a photo of the truck that had been captured by the gas station's surveillance cameras, police got a tip that led them to the property of a man who owns an asphalt and trucking company in North Bloomfield, OH. Police obtained a search warrant yesterday and found a 5,000-gallon tank holding roughly about 500 gallons of diesel fuel. Police say that similar thefts have occurred throughout eastern OH, and they are investigating whether these crimes are connected. “You got to have a little respect for this," Hermitage police Deputy Chief Edward Holiga tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “It's a very ingenious way of doing things, and I've never seen anything like this. Just ingenious.”
