THE OTHER SHOE DROPS: Updates To Previous Posts
† Do You Swear To Tell The PC Truth, The Censored Truth And Nothing But The Truth That Will Set The Defendant Free?: In response to a petition by lawyers representing five foreign-born Muslim men in their 20s accused of plotting to attack soldiers at Fort Dix, NJ, to delete “inflammatory” references to al-Qaida and jihad from the indictment, federal prosecutors filed a response that “the terms in question are central to the case, arguing that jihadist principles motivated the defendants,” reports The Associated Press. “In Friday's court filings, prosecutors say government informants secretly recorded the suspects frequently talking about violent jihad.” Defense attorneys and prosecutors will appear in U.S. District Court in Camden next month for oral arguments on the question.
† Boston Burned By Fake Firefighter Disability Claims: Boston Globe columnist Joan Vennochi has put a face – and body – on the long-standing scandal of fraudulent disability retirement payments to the city’s firefighters:
[Albert] Arroyo looks like he can bench-press a tanker truck. Yet, he claims he suffered a back injury so severe he can't pick up a clipboard and do his job as a fire inspector.
He is seeking a disability retirement at the same time he brazenly demonstrates his amazing physical fitness in bodybuilding contests - and, at the same time the US attorney is investigating questionable disability retirements of Boston firefighters, retired and active, of all ranks. …
On WRKO's Finneran's Forum, Ed Kelly, president of the Firefighters Union, first said he wouldn't defend any abuse of the system. … Then, he defended Arroyo, explaining that his leg "goes numb from time to time" and if that happens "when he's climbing a ladder, what good is it?" Apparently, numbness is an issue when you're checking fire code compliance, not when you're flexing muscles onstage.
Vennochi calls Arroyo “the sorry poster child for a public sector that too often shows contempt for the public that underwrites it.”
† Updates To Previous Posts (fourth item, Is Abortion Still “The Third Rail” In Politics?): Under a SD law that took effect July 1st within two hours before an abortion, a doctor must inform the woman that she has “an existing relationship” with the fetus that is protected by the U.S. Constitution; that her “existing constitutional rights with regards to that relationship will be terminated”; and that the procedure “will terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique living human being,” reports The Washington Post. The doctor is also required to ask if she wants to see a sonogram of the fetus. The information is contained in a script doctors will read from; women must confirm in writing that they understand the information provided. Some 700 abortions are performed in SD annually. While The Stiletto doubts many women will want to see a sonogram, the more information they have about the child they are about to kill the better. Like suicide abortion is a choice that cannot be undone.
† Updates To Previous Posts (second item): In a recent Townhall.com column, Cal Thomas points to Islamic Saudi Academy in Alexandria, VA, which uses textbooks that promote jihad and teach students that infidels – that is to say, their Jewish and Christian neighbors – are enemies of the Muslim faith, and asks why Fairfax County officials don’t terminate the school’s $2.2 million lease for reasons of public “health, safety and welfare.” As Thomas puts it:
“One would be hard-pressed to find a greater threat to public health, safety and welfare than this training ground for a new generation of jihadists. The State Department isn't known for having a spine in such things. Does Fairfax County, or will it pretend it can take Saudi money without suffering consequences?”
