When three men entered S & J Meat Market in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and started taking $2,000 worth of cigarettes from the shelves, the two brothers who owned the deli grabbed a machete and a couple of large carving knives and went after them. After chasing the suspects to another deli, brothers Mohammed and Sammy Othman, were able to keep two of them pinned down until the police got there. The third was caught after he tried calling one of the other thugs and unwittingly revealed his location to Mohammed, who had answered a cellphone that had fallen outside his store.

Ex-con Robert Williams was sentenced to 422 years in prison by state Supreme Court Justice Carol Berkman for attempted murder, rape, kidnapping and arson and, reports The Associated Press. Because the rape victim was able to tell the jury the sadistic and depraved things Williams did to her during a 19-hour rape and torture ordeal - “Everyone who witnessed (the victim's) testimony in this courtroom had to be impressed by her bravery, her intelligence and her extraordinary grace,” noted Berkman – the judge was able to make sure he is incarcerated until he dies. The defense attorney had asked Berkman to impose a sentence on Williams that would “give him hope of going home one day," but she refused, explaining that “by his own conduct [he] has forfeited any hope of liberty.”
† Updates To Previous Posts (fourth item, “CAIR: OfficeMax Drops Ads On Michael Savage’s Radio Program Because He Is "Anti-Muslim”): U.S. District Judge Susan Illston threw out a copyright infringement and racketeering lawsuit lawsuit by conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage against the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) for disseminating without his permission a recording of snippets of one of his shows in which he called the Koran “a book of hate,” reports The Associated Press. In her ruling she wrote that it is permissible to use excerpts of a public broadcast for purposes of comment and criticism, and that there was no evidence advertising on the show had been affected. Savage's attorney, Daniel Horowitz, plans to file a new racketeering suit alleging that CAIR is political organization with ties to terrorists and not a civil rights group.
