WHAT A HEEL!: Ex-Morgue Attendant Accused Of Abusing Corpse

A grand jury indicted Kenneth Douglas, 55, a morgue attendant in the Hamilton County coroner’s office from 1976 to 1992, for sexually assaulting the corpse of 19-year-old Karen Range, who was murdered during an attempted rape Aug. 19, 1982, reports WLWT-TV (Channel 5-Cincinnati). Prosecutors allege that when Range’s body was at the lab for testing, Douglas took it from a refrigeration unit and sexually assaulted it. The defense attorney for David Steffen, who admitted murdering Range and was sentenced to death, maintained that his client had not raped her, but it wasn’t until a DNA test performed on Douglas last year when he was convicted of drug trafficking that investigators were able to link him to semen found in Range’s body. Prosecutors will now review all autopsies during the period Douglas worked in the coroner’s office to see if he committed other such offenses. If convicted of abusing Range’s corpse, Douglas could get as much as 12 months in prison.
