That Dog Won’t Vote (second item): Charges against Jane Balogh for registering her Australian shepherd-terrier mix, Duncan, to vote to demonstrate how easy it is to commit voter fraud in WA were dropped after she paid $240 in court costs and completed community service, reports The Associated Press. Balogh had made it a point to tell election officials that her dog was on the voter rolls, and he never actually voted. 

 

The Uniter: Part II: When Barack Obama opted out of public financing for his general election campaign, he was counting on Hillary Clinton’s fund-raisers and donors to kick in $50 million to $75 million to help him reach a target of $300 million, reports The New York Times. The paper’s analysis of Federal Election Committee records found Clinton donors contributed roughly $2 million to the Obama campaign in June and July. Her top fund-raisers are sitting on their hands, because they feel they were treated shabbily at the party convention, they are upset that Obama didn’t even vet his one-time rival as a potential veep and resent the Obama campaign not having made a meaningful effort to retire Hillary’s campaign debt.  

 

Muncie Creep Makes Children Murder Cat: Danield J. Collins was sentenced to 18 months in prison after admitting he forced his 7-year-old daughter to kill the family cat by holding a knife in her hand and making her stab the pet, reports The Associated Press. The judge also ordered Collins to get treatment for substance abuse and to attend parenting classes, as well as barred him from ever owning another pet.
