A 2006 documentary, "Mine Your Own Business," a 2006 documentary showed how Western environmental activists waged a global campaign against mining companies that want to renovate obsolete mines, provide desperately needed jobs and improve the roads, housing and water supply for the local populace – despite the desperate need for the jobs and improvement in the standard of living that would result.
Western do-gooders are at it again, keeping millions of Africans poor and hungry by promoting traditional farming instead of modern scientific agriculture, according to British Association for the Advancement of Science president Sir David King, reports The Times of London:
Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from Europe and America are turning African countries against sophisticated farming methods, including GM crops, in favour of indigenous and organic approaches that cannot deliver the continent's much needed “green revolution.” …

King’s position is at odds with the British government, which endorsed the findings of a report from 400 scientists and development experts, the International Assessement of Agricultural Science and Technology, which emphasized small-scale farming using traditional methods.
