THE DAILY BLADE: Turkish Americans For Obama Islamicize His Campaign Logo
Turks and Armenians finally agree on something: Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) should be the next president of the United States.
Each group has its own Web site. Turkish Americans For Obama is an ad-hoc affair, whereas Armenians For Obama is an officially sanctioned coalition group.
Turkish Americans For Obama may not be aware that in January, the candidate released a statement (third item) reminding the Armenian community that he “strongly” supports passage of the Armenian Genocide promising to recognize the Armenian Genocide as president. In contrast, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has not made similar attempts to court the Armenian-American community.
Perhaps McCain sees this voting bloc as a lost cause. Armenian-Americans – traditionally solidly Republican - have left the GOP in droves after George W. Bush reneged on his campaign promises of 2000 and 2004 to support the Armenian Genocide Resolution in Congress, and his refusal to characterize “the events of 1915” as a genocidal crime against humanity – not even in his annual proclamations on April 24th, Armenian Remembrance Day.
For his part, Obama may not be equally keen on getting Turkish-American and Armenian-American support. For one thing, the 2000 U.S. Census has pegged the number of Armenian-Americans at 385,500, whereas there are only one-third as many Americans of Turkish descent.
Then too, while Armenians For Obama subtly altered the Obama campaign logo to add the orange and dark blue colors of the Armenian flag to the red and white stripes that evokes the American flag, Turkish Americans for Obama has hijacked the campaign logo and added the star-and-crescent motif of the Turkish flag (video).
With the Fight The Smears Web site on a crusade to call out anyone who suggests Obama is Muslim – or “Muslin,” for that matter - the Obama campaign may not welcome the Islamicization of its logo.

A 7-year-old boy broke into an Australian outback zoo, and fed a turtle, four western blue tongue lizards, two bearded dragons and two thorny devil lizards to a three-foot, 440 pound saltwater crocodile – some of which were alive, some of which he first clubbed to death, reports Reuters. “In my day he'd get a big boot up the arse,” the zoo’s director Rex Neindorf told the wire service in a telephone interview, and says he is looking into the possibility of suing the kid’s parents who "were supposedly in control of him at the time.”
