WHAT A HEEL: Juror Lies In Corruption Trial

Juror Marian Hinnant, 52, was dismissed from the trial of Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) after she lied to U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan, telling him that her father had died in CA so she could attend the Breeders' Cup, reports The Washington Post. She never expected  the trial to last so long and had arranged to go to the horse race months ago. After an alternate juror took her spot, Stevens was convicted on seven counts of lying on financial disclosure forms to hide $250,000 worth of gifts and renovations to his AK home from a wealthy constituent. As of this writing, Stevens leads his Dem opponent, Mark Begich, by only 3,400 votes; the final outcome of the race won’t be known for several days, until 60,000 absentee ballots and 9,000 early votes and provisional ballots are counted.
