THE DAILY BLADE: Iran: Obama Is Bush III

After two years of holding out for “direct, unconditional talks” about its nuclear program with the U.S., Iran's leaders are balking now that a new administration wants to accommodate them, reports The Washington Post:

“People who put on a mask of friendship, but with the objective of betrayal, and who enter from the angle of negotiations without preconditions, are more dangerous,” Hossein Taeb, deputy commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, said Wednesday, according to the semiofficial Mehr News Agency.

“The power holders in the new American government are trying to regain their lost influence with a tactical change in their foreign diplomacy. They are shifting from a hard conflict to a soft attack,” Taeb said.

For Iran's leaders, the only state of affairs worse than poor relations with the United States may be improved relations.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sent Obama a congratulatory letter last week, but by Wednesday his welcoming tone had dissipated. “It doesn't make any difference for us who comes and who goes,” he said in a speech in the northern town of Sari. “It's their actions which are studied by the Iranian and world nations.” …

In recent interviews, advisers to Ahmadinejad said the new U.S. administration would have to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq, show respect for Iran's system of rule by a supreme religious leader, and withdraw its objections to Iran's nuclear program before it can enter into negotiations with the Iranian government.

“The U.S. must prove that their policies have changed and are now based upon respecting the rights of the Iranian nation and mutual respect,” said Mojtaba Samareh Hashemi, the president's closest adviser.

Hey, it’s not like voters weren’t warned this would happen:

Pol Apologizes For Hitler Comparison

Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) apologized for likening Barack Hussein Obama’s* proposal to establish a national police/security force as strong as the U.S. military to a totalitarian tactic used by Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia to control the populace, reports CNN’s Political Ticker. In an Associated Press interview (audio) Broun said:

That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did. In fact every fascist dictatorship [has established] a national police force or a national security force that's answerable to the one in power.  … As a peace-loving, freedom-loving American citizen who believes in the Constitution as our Founding Fathers meant it to be, I’m just extremely fearful of this kind of mentality.

Leaving aside the fact that Obama has already shown a troubling propensity to trample on people’s rights – and with the help of law enforcement and government employees, one should note – The Stiletto is waiting for any Dem or Lib who ever compared George Bush to Hitler to apologize. And wouldn’t it be nice if CNN would apologize for this:

*It’s OK to use his middle name now; The New York Times says so.
