THE OTHER SHOE DROPS: Updates To Previous Posts

“Person Of Interest” Steven Hatfill To Earn Lots Of Interest Income From Huge DOJ Payout: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit has vacated a contempt order against former USA Today reporter Toni Locy on the grounds that when Dr. Steven Hatfill settled with the Justice Department in June her refusal to divulge confidential sources in reporting on the anthrax investigation was rendered moot, reports Legal Times. The per curium order did not address U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton’s previous order that Locy to pay one-time “person of interest” Hatfill's attorney fees related to the litigation of her refusal to identify sources.

Updates To Previous Posts (third item, Never Mind Marxism. Will An Obama Administration Be Totalitarian?): OH Inspector General Tom Charles has concluded that Helen Jones-Kelley, who heads the state’s Department of Job and Family Services, improperly used state computers to conduct 18 background checks on  Samuel J. Wurzelbacher (AKA “Joe the Plumber”), and that she also improperly used state e-mail to engage in political activity, reports The Associated Press. Jones-Kelley had claimed the records search was a routine check her agency conducts when someone suddenly emerges in the limelight, but the IG found no evidence that this is true and has forwarded the results of his investigation to the Franklin County prosecutor's office in Columbus for “review and consideration.” Meanwhile, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is looking into searches of Wurzelbacher's driving history made by an IT contractor using a Toledo Police Department account for possible criminal charges. In the aftermath of the IG's report, OH Gov. Ted Strickland (D) put Jones-Kelley on a one-month unpaid suspension; two of her underlings, Doug Thompson and Fred Williams will also get unpaid suspensions of four weeks and two weeks, respectively.

The illegal activity came to light during one of the nation's largest workplace immigration raids in May during which Federal immigration agents arrested 389 workers.

Updates To Previous Posts (FBI Lacked Jaundiced Eye Before Cutting Deal With Gangster Needing Liver Transplant): Remember the outrage over three purported Japanese gangsters who came to the U.S. to receive liver transplants? Well, a study of U.S. transplant recipients in 2003 by Harvard researchers has uncovered what surely has to be regarded as a national shame: People without health insurance are roughly 20 times more likely to donate a liver or kidney than to receive one. Few medical centers will put someone on the transplant list if (s)he doesn’t have the money or insurance coverage to pay for the procedure and follow-up care – but have no qualms over harvesting much-needed organs from po’ folk for paying customers, including foreign miscreants.
