ON THE CUTTING EDGE: Where Free Booze Flows Like Water

In 2005 musician Seva Granik, started forwarding text messages to friends whenever he found out about an open bar, then teamed up with Web designer Jason Fried to launch Myopenbar.com and within six months the duo was sending weekly e-mail blasts to 3,000 people, reports The New York Times. The site now has 30,000 subscribers in NYC, and 19,000 subscribers who want to find out where the free booze is flowing in LA, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami and Honolulu - and thanks to “the tanking economy and shrinking advertising dollars and liquor sales at bars … demand for free drinks is skyrocketing.” The site lists venues offering free beer or vodka, restaurants serving free wine, and brunch spots that allow diners to bring their own bottles.
