WHAT A HEEL: Teenager Takes Supermarket Scooter

A Freemont, CA, 17-year-old was caught on a Safeway supermarket surveillance tape on New Year's Eve stealing a motorized shopping scooter valued at $3,000 that is provided for use by mobility-impaired customers, reports The Mercury News:

 

Store employees called police as they watched the boy ride east on Argonaut Way with a group of teenage boys following him on foot, [Detective Bill] Veteran said. …

 

The teen ultimately was released to his mother with a notice to appear in juvenile court on suspicion of grand theft, Veteran said.
