GOODY TWO SHOES: How Green Is My Inauguration?
Apparently, the estimated 1.8 million people who attended the inauguration of Barack Hussein Obama* didn't get the “pack it in, pack it out” memo reports The Washington Post:
Washington trash trucks hauled away at least 130 tons of garbage … near the White House.
Because most trash cans had been removed for security reasons and a record-breaking crowd gathered downtown, the mountain of rubbish left behind was of historic proportions. …
The detritus included handwarmer packets, bottles, food, newspapers, blankets, gloves, coolers and a table or two, in addition to items bought from street vendors.
Editorial Note: According to Bloomberg.com, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority made plans to land and park the 500 private jets expected between January 16th and January 21st – a 40 percent increase over the 300 accommodated for President George Bush’s 2004 inaugural. The Wall Street Journal noted: “[F]lying private to a celebration of a populist, pro-environment President is a bit like the Detroit execs jetting to Washington for bailout money.” Tell that to Jessica Alba.
