WHAT A HEEL: Hot Off The Press
Michael Farrell, 53, was arrested for allegedly delivering stolen newspapers to at least a dozen customers who thought they had taken out subscriptions, reports The Express-Times (Harrisburg, PA):
Farrell … stole more than $12,000 worth of newspapers since 2006 then collected money for them, said Rob Rothacker, Express-Times vice president of circulation and operations. …
Rothacker said Express-Times employees videotaped Farrell depositing enough coins into an Express-Times box to buy one paper then emptying the entire machine. The tape was provided to police.
Farrell previously worked as a carrier for The Express-Times, but left the job in 2006. At that time, Rothacker believes, he ordered subscriptions to be canceled for some of the customers on his route then had the customers start writing checks to him. …
Farrell said his customers preferred dealing with him because the Express-Times treated them rudely, overpriced them for newspapers and damaged their property when delivering papers.
