WHAT A HEEL: Filching Meds From Mourning Families

Alameda police sergeant Ronald R. Jones, 46, was arrested on suspicion of fraud and misrepresentation to obtain a controlled substance after he allegedly stole prescription painkillers from the family of a man who recently died, reports the San Francisco Chronicle:

Jones allegedly told the family of a man who died of natural causes that police offered a disposal service for prescription medications, Scott said.

The department does not provide such a service. …

Police suspect that Jones contacted the families of several other people who died recently and offered to take away prescription medicines.

Authorities said their investigation is continuing.

The 26-year veteran was placed on paid administrative leave.
