WHAT A HEEL: Professor Calls Cops On Pro-Second Amendment Student
Central Connecticut State University communications professor Paula Anderson sicced the cops on one of her students after he gave a presentation in class on why students and teachers should be allowed to carry concealed weapons on campus, reports Fox News:
That night, police called [John] Wahlberg, a 23-year-old senior, and asked him to come to the station. When he arrived, they they [sic] read off a list of firearms that were registered in his name and asked where he kept them. Guns are strictly prohibited on the CCSU campus and residence halls, but Wahlberg says he lives 20 miles off-campus and keeps his gun collection locked up in a safe. No further action was taken by police or administrators. …
Robert Shibley, vice president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), said
“If all he did was discuss reasons for allowing guns on campus, it seems a bit much to call the police and grill him about it,” Shibley said. “If you go after students for just discussing an idea, that goes against everything a university is supposed to stand for.”
Although Jerold Duquette, an associate professor of political science at CCSU who sits on the Faculty Senate Committee on Academic Freedom, insists there is “no evidence” suggesting this is a case of “a liberal professor going after a student because he likes guns” here’s what Anderson’s students said about her (spelling and grammar left intact by The Stiletto):
† She's an elitist idiot. Typical acadamia.
† liberal anti American nut
† Prof. will not tolerate free speech in the classroom. She does not believe in the marketplace of ideas, and she squelches free-speech by reporting students that want to discuss issues regarding freedom, self-defense and conservationism. My guess is that this wretched Marxist will make tenure as soon as possible. God help us.
† hey Paula! the SS wants the armband back
† Seems to have a paranoia about others exercising free speech. She should be fired.
† Does not teach. Attempts indoctrination.
† She is a disgrace. She should do higher education a favor and resign. Her pursuit is obviously liberal indoctrination, not higher analytical learning.
† This "professor" needs to get a clue. I guess free speach only applies if its the "correct" speach.

The site has purged most of the comments listed here, probably because anyone at all can rate the professor (I clicked on 'rate this professor' and went right to the rating form) and she's drawn national attention. So like Sarah Palin, she gets trolls nation wide.
I see she is a communications professor. I don't know what it is about those people but my husband and I were both irritated by each of ours. In response we gave speeches like, in his case, "How to cast a magic circle." and in mine, "How to mix ANFO". That's "ammonium nitrate fuel oil" which is a low grade explosive used in the Oklahoma City Court House bombing, though I hasten to add I used dish soap instead of furnace oil to mix with the fertilizer. That would be the topic of my next speech to this teacher, followed by one on constructing delayed circuits, (I once pranked my boss's chair with a buzzer and a mercury switch) followed by ... I could keep her in conniption fits for years. RAOFLOL!

The remaining comments - if they are legit; don't know how the site verifies this - aren't that flattering, either. She doesn't put a lot of effort into teaching and seems partial to jocks, who regard her as an easy A. Parents footing the bills for tuition certainly are not getting a good value:
† She is really nice and funny and loves athletes... if you are an athlete take a class with her!
† If you want an easy A... take this class!
† I didn't learn much, but it was an easy grade.
† very easy class! only 2 QUICK speeches, midterm is only 2 pages. class is usually dismissed early. Take this class if you're looking for an easy A
† Very easy, everything form the book, one group presentations and one individual. Not bad at all. Classes were kind of boring,
† BUT THE BOOK SHE READS RIGHT FROM IT

You don't really think anonymous comments on RateMyProf are actually evidence do you? Unfortunately, the alleged students who posted the comments didn't bother to check the CCSU course catelogue, which does not include any of the courses they claim to have taken with this prof.
Responsible claims require evdience. In this case, no one can responsibly claim that the prof or the student are right or wrong.
I don't know if the incident illustrates bias or not, but the reactions don't seem quite as unclear in that regard.

The Stiletto has no way of knowing whether or how the site verifies the identities of the raters - nor how the site administrator determined the comments (s)he removed were bogus, as opposed to the comments still posted. So she concedes this point to you. But you maintain there is "no proof" of the student's version of events. He was called to the police station to answer questions, so there should be a police report. Wouldn't that be proof enough?
Well, the entire story should come out when he sues and then you'll have enough information to determine whether this is a case of a liberal professor punishing politically incorrect thought.
