THE DAILY BLADE: Black Mayoral Candidate Wants To Bring Back Lynching To Fight Crime
George Lambus, 62, is running for mayor of Jackson, MS, on an unusual – many say racist – platform: To combat rampant black-on-black crime it will take “a noose and a stout tree limb,” reports The Associated Press. He promises voters that he will “provide the noose and when the economy improves, I will get the jobs here.” In an interview with AP, Lambus defends his views:
"Look at recent history, like in South Africa, when apartheid was abolished. Blacks went on a crime spree. Other blacks got tired of it ... and they formed vigilantes and they killed people. It brought the crime down."
His pistol nearby as he peered out a window at his decaying Jackson neighborhood, Lambus added: "When you cut your yard, carry a gun. When you go to church, carry a gun. When you go to school, carry a gun."
Lambus also asserts that executions are the only way to control crime, adding "If we look at the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, it's driven with blood."
The Mississippi Republican Party Chairman Brad White disavows Lambus, who has little or no chance of winning in the majority-black city, which no Repub has led in living memory.
Editorial Note: AP has a habit of either omitting or burying the political affiliation of Dem candidates and office holders who turn out to be miscreants or heels. Not so with Repubs. Melton’s political affiliation is right there in the lede: “Down here in the Deep South, calls to bring back the hanging noose are coming from an unlikely source: a 62-year-old, black Republican mayoral candidate in Mississippi's largest city.” And the article goes on to mention Melton’s party affiliation three more times, in case you missed it the first time. Natch, AP’s lede assumes that it’s obvious to anyone reading the article that the incongruity arises from the color of Melton’s skin, as the content of his character - being Repub - is, of course, consistent with being a lynch-happy racist.
I'm The Taxman. Yeah, I'm The Taxman. And You're Working For No One But Me.

The New York Times reports that three weeks ago AIG filed a lawsuit against its owner - the federal government - for a refund of $306 million in tax payments “involving entities controlled by the company’s financial products unit in the Cayman Islands, Ireland, the Dutch Antilles and other offshore havens,” several of which are “entities whose function centers on executive compensation”:
The company is in effect asking for even more money, in the form of tax refunds. The suit also suggests that A.I.G. is spending taxpayer money to pursue its case, something it is legally entitled to do. Its initial claim was denied by the Internal Revenue Service last year.
And now, the House has approved a bill to slap a 90 percent tax on bonus payments to AIG employees and other those of other firms that took at least $5 billion in taxpayer bailout money.
