NOT THE SHARPEST KNIVES IN THE DRAWER: “Stop Us Before We Steal Again!”
Matthew and Laura Eaton of San Marcos, CA, went on the "Dr. Phil" show last fall, and admitted they had accumulated about $1 million in stolen goods over a seven-year period as professional shoplifters (Matthew Eaton said it was “easy money”). The episode included a homemade video of a three-day shoplifting spree in another state that was a five-hour drive from their Leslie Court home, with their young kids in tow, during which the couple stole $5K worth of merchandise from 27 stores, reports the North County Times.
The Secret Service and the multi-agency San Diego Regional Fraud Task Force has seized toys, a car and other items from the couple’s home. Laura told the show’s host Phil McGraw that “our whole house, pretty much” contained stolen merchandise. For his part, her husband explained that they did the show “to help us stop, because my cover's blown."
