NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Bob (Not-So) Quick

British counter-terrorism units raided locations in Manchester, Liverpool and other cities throughout northwest England and arrested 10 Pakistani-born men who had student visas, and one UK-born Pakistani. The operation was hastily set into motion after Scotland Yard's top counter-terrorism official, Assistant Commissioner Bob Quick, arrived at No. 10 Downing Street to brief Prime Minister Gordon Brown and was photographed holding papers marked “secret” detailing the planned operation, reports My Daily Global News.

The Wall Street Journal reports that once the security breach was discovered, the British government issued a Defence Advisory Notice, which is a voluntary media blackout on sensitive material. In this instance, the British press agreed to wait until the arrests had been made before publishing the photos. Imagine The New York Times’ response had the Bush administration requested that it withhold information that may aid the enemy. Oh wait, you don’t have to. Time and time again (second item), The Times has published information that compromises the safety of our troops and diminishes the effectiveness of U.S. counterterrorism efforts.
