WHAT A HEEL: Lawyer Allegedly Smuggles Drugs Into Prison
As Charles Dickens once noted (via “Oliver Twist” character Mr. Bumble), “the law is an ass." And now, we have former Philly lawyer, Randall Sommovilla, who is allegedly a mule. Sommovilla, 61, was charged with possession of contraband and illegal narcotics after he allegedly tried to smuggle packets of cocaine and heroin into the Delaware County Prison in Thornton, PA, while visiting Amber Knox, one of his clients, reports The American Lawyer:
The drugs were detected by a corrections officer during a routine search for controlled substances conducted on all jailhouse visitors. Citing court documents, the Inquirer reports that a scan of Sommovilla registered positive, whereupon a guard conducted a second search.
A plastic bag on the floor containing pills and small blue packages - later determined to be heroin - was found near Sommovilla's feet. A subsequent search of Sommovilla's car turned up cocaine and three glass pipes.
If convicted, Sommovilla could be sentenced to as much as three years in prison.
