WHAT A HEEL: Police Chief Crashes Car In Alleged Drunk Driving Incident

Alexandria, VA, Police Chief David P. Baker was arrested for drunken driving after the city-issued Ford Explorer he was driving collided with another vehicle as he tried to merge onto Route 66, reports The Washington Post:

Baker allegedly had a blood alcohol level of .19, authorities said. City Manager James K. Hartmann named Deputy Police Chief Earl Cook as acting chief. …

An internal investigation is underway and Hartmann said that he would wait until that review is complete next week before determining whether to fire Baker for the offense. The review will be conducted by Alexandria's human resources department and city attorney's office. In the meantime, Baker's police-issued gun has been confiscated, Hartmann said.

If convicted, Baker would be sentenced to a minimum five days in jail under VA law, because his blood alcohol level was above .15.
