WHAT HEELS: Self-Hating Heebs
Remember those “Drunken Negro Face” cookies that caused an uproar in NYC’s Greenwich Village? Roseanne Barr has gone baker Ted Kefalinos one better (um, worse) with this photo in Heeb, in which she depicts Adolph Hitler taking a tray of burnt gingerbread “Jew Cookies” out of the oven:
Josh Neuman, the magazine’s publisher, makes no apologies to anyone who has “smug and sanctimonious visions of Jewish life”:
Heeb is a satirical Jewish culture magazine that interrogates stereotypes and ideas (hopefully in creative ways) that many hold sacred in order to represent the complex and nuanced perspectives that many Jews have about their identities.
Maybe for an encore, Heeb will dress Barr up as Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and have her pull out a tray of nuked “Jew Cookies” from a microwave.
