WHAT A HEEL: “Big Baby” Fools Special Needs Caregiver Into Changing His Diapers

After placing an ad on Craigslist.org offering child care services, Janet Schulte got a call from a man who said his middle-aged brother, who became disabled in a car accident and had the mental capacity of a child, needed a caregiver who could bottle-feed him and change his diapers and that an aunt and his current caregiver “had no patience,” reports Florida Today (Brevard County). She agreed to provide the necessary care in her home for $600 a week, but after about three months of “red flags” she figured out that her employer and the “disabled brother” were one and the same.

A “humiliated” Schulte tells Florida Today: "I feel violated. I feel disgusted. I consented to change his diapers, but I legitimately thought this man needed help. How can that not be a crime for him to come into my house and expose himself?" But law enforcement and legal experts tell Florida Today that fraud statutes don’t cover this “weird case” if Schulte got paid for her work – although Melbourne police are looking into whether the man used another person's credit card illegally when he paid her.
