WHAT A HEEL: NJ Residents Pitch A Fit Over Gadhafi’s Plans To Pitch A Tent In Their State

During an upcoming visit to the United Nations, Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi plans to pitch an air-conditioned Bedouin tent on the lawn of a Libyan-owned estate in Englewood, NJ, an idea that has state residents and officials apoplectic, given that 33 of its sons and daughters were murdered in the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 in 1988, reports The Associated Press:

"This is what happens when you have the path of appeasement," Susan Cohen, a resident of Cape May Court House whose 20-year-old daughter died in the Pan Am bombing. "He's getting everything he wants, and I guess that includes a trip to the state of New Jersey, which certainly doesn't need this."

In Washington, U.S. officials said Englewood was one option the Libyans were looking at to pitch the tent after their request to set it up in New York's Central Park had been denied because of logistics and security concerns. …

Nicole DiCocco, spokeswoman for the Libyan Embassy in Washington, confirmed that the Englewood estate is a possible site for Gadhafi to stay. She said that he would use the tent for entertainment, not live in it, but that it hasn't been confirmed where he'll actually stay.

Just in case Gadhafi doesn’t get the hint that he’s not welcome in the Garden State, Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) wants the State Department to confine Gadhafi's movements in the U.S. to the immediate area surrounding the U.N. headquarters in Manhattan.
