WHAT A HEEL: Student Steals Social Security Number To Get Tuition Break
Patricia Brandao allegedly used the Social Security number of a 71-year-old woman so she could claim in-state tuition status, saving thousands of dollars in tuition, reports WSB-TV (Channel 2-Atlanta):
Brandao graduated three years ago, but school officials discovered the alleged ID theft when Brandao requested that her Social Security number be changed on transcripts sent to two medical schools.
Brandao has been charged with identity theft, forgery, misrepresentation of academic standing and scheming to defraud. Imagine the lucrative medical career she could have had aiding and abetting medical identity theft, and bilking Medicare and private insurers out of thousands of dollars.
