GOODY TWO SHOES: Fake Astroturf Vs. Real Astroturf

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi famously dismissed the grassroots uprising against runaway government spending - exemplified by the astronomical price tag for healthcare “reform” - as “Astroturf” (video link). Since then, numerous polls suggest the protests were fake Astroturf – that is to say, real grassroots.

Now, The Washington Times has gotten hold of a “field plan” for a coordinated series of “grassroots” demonstrations planned for tomorrow by Health Care for America Now (HCAN) in support of President Barack Hussein Obama’s healthcare agenda:

HCAN, which is backed by a coalition of labor unions and liberal groups including ACORN and MoveOn.org, organized the protests to target insurance companies and drafted the plan, which describes the demonstrations as part of its "insurance enemies project."

The document … details specific talking points, tactics, props and strategies to stage the protests. It lists goals that include action that "mobilizes our base by animating existing anger about private insurers."

The HCAN field plan dictates that each protest will include a minimum of 30 participants, target only health care insurers CIGNA, WellPoint and United Health Care and showcase what it calls "victims," or people who have either lost insurance, can't afford it or were denied coverage because of pre-existing medical conditions. …

The field plan outlines demonstrations for cities and towns across the country sharing the banner "Big Insurance: Sick of It," and the slogan, "If the insurance companies win, we lose."

The largest demonstrations will occur in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Milwaukee - cities where CIGNA, WellPoint, United Health Care are headquartered or have a significant presence.

Editorial Note: Someone should clue these “grassroots” organizers in on the fact that Obama and the Dems are in bed with the insurance companies they are protesting. Actions speak louder than words, and with her rhetoric about insurance companies being "immoral" and "villainous" Pelosi did her job to deflect attention from the tireless efforts of Tom Daschle and other lobbyists to ensure that healthcare “reform” will create windfall profits for insurers by forcing millions of currently uninsured people to buy policies. Whether these new customers dig into their own pockets to pay for coverage or receive taxpayer subsidies, the money will flow straight into the coffers of health insurance companies. That’s not the redistribution of income that Obama supporters had in mind when they voted for him, but that’s just what they are agitating for now at these staged rallies.
